3 Housekeeping Tips for Your Outdoor Propane Grill

cleaning grill

It’s essential to wash and clean your propane grill after use for several reasons. Firstly, leftover food particles and grease on the grill can attract bacteria, which can cause foodborne illnesses. Secondly, grease and food debris buildup can create a fire hazard the next time the grill is used. Additionally, a dirty grill can affect the flavor of the food and even cause flare-ups during cooking. Regular cleaning and maintenance of the grill will ensure that it remains safe to use, extends its lifespan, and produces delicious food every time.

Here are 3 tips that will keep your grill clean and functional for years to come:

  1. Clean the Grill Cover: Whether your grill cover has some dirt from the fall and winter weather or if it has accumulated grime from barbecues past, it’s always a great idea to give the grill cover a thorough cleaning before and after its seasonal use.
    • Start by removing loose dirt or outdoor debris like leaves and branches off the cover and the surrounding area. Once completed, hose down the grill cover to loosen any dirt.
    • Mix a solution of warm water and mild detergent or dish soap in a bucket or basin.
    • Dip a sponge or soft cloth into the solution and gently scrub the surface of the grill cover, paying close attention to any stubborn stains or spots.
    • Rinse the grill cover thoroughly with a hose or use a bucket of clean water and a clean sponge or cloth.
    • Ensure the grill cover air dries fully before putting it back on the grill or storing it away.
  2. Clean the Grill: Similar to the cover, the grill can always use a wash – especially if it’s not cleaned regularly.
    • Remove the grates and set them aside.
    • Brush the inside of the grill thoroughly with a stiff wire brush to remove any large debris or leftover food particles.
    • Mix a solution of warm water and mild detergent or dish soap in a bucket or basin.
    • Dip a sponge or soft cloth into the solution and gently scrub the inside and outside of the grill, paying close attention to any stubborn stains or spots.
    • Rinse the grill thoroughly with a hose or using a bucket of clean water and a clean sponge or cloth.
    • Dry the grill with a clean towel or allow it to air dry.
  3. Washing Grill Grates: For best practices, it is suggested to clean the grates after every use.
    • Clean the grates separately using a wire brush and warm soapy water.
    • Remove any accumulated food that has melted or burned into the grates during use.
    • Rinse and dry them before replacing them in the grill.
