Beyond The Basic Cheeseburger

A basic cheeseburger is, well, basic. We can get more creative than a patty with cheese on top. Today, on National Cheeseburger Day (September 18th), we’re sharing ideas for making your next cheeseburger anything but basic.

1.  Pizza Burger. Top your beef patty with marinara, mozzarella cheese, and pepperoni slices.

2. Breakfast Burger. Top buns with bacon slices, a patty, cheese, and a fried egg.

3. Loaded Fry Burger. Melt cheese, bacon, green onions, and sliced jalapenos on top of crispy French fries. Top burger with loaded fries.

4. French Onion Soup Burger. Add onion soup mix to the ground beef and cook your burger. Place burger on a brioche bun, top with caramelized onions and top with Gruyere cheese.

5. Mac N Cheese Burger. Check out our recipe below.

We have a lot of amazing recipes on our Cooked on Propane blog. We hope you’ll check them out and share photos with us if you made any of these burgers.

Ingredients

Mac N Cheese

  • 1/2 box Elbow macaroni
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 1 1/2 tbsp Flour
  • 1/2 tsp Salt and pepper
  • 1 cup Heavy Cream
  • 4 oz Shredded cheddar cheese
  • 4 oz Shredded gouda cheese

Burger

  • 1/2 lb Ground beef
  • 1 tsp salt and pepper
  • 2 slices Cheddar cheese
  • 2 rolls of choice

Instructions

Mac N Cheese

  • Cook macaroni according to package directions.
  • In a saucepan, melt butter until it sizzles. Stir in flour, salt and pepper. Over medium heat, add heavy cream and stir constantly until thickened (about 5-7 minutes).
  • Reduce heat to low. Stir in shredded cheeses. Stir constantly until cheese is melted.
  • Add cooked macaroni to cheese mixture and stir well coating pasta.

Burger

  • In a bowl, mix ground beef with salt and pepper. Form into 2 patties.
  • Place the burgers on a hot propane grill and cook for 3-5 minutes and then flip and cook for another 3-5 minutes on the other side, until desired level of doneness has been achieved.
  • Layer a cheddar cheese slice on top of each burger during the last few minutes of cooking and cook until the cheese melts.
  • Place one burger patty onto the bottom bun. Add a generous portion of the mac n cheese onto the burger. Add any additional toppings you'd like (onions, bacon, lettuce, tomato, etc.) and place the top of the bun on the burger. Enjoy!
