Rutland, Vermont Employees Team Up to Address Community Food Insecurity
Food insecurity affects millions of individuals and families nationwide, leaving many wondering where their next meal will come from. Fortunately, there are organizations that cater to those struggling and play a vital role in addressing hunger within their own local communities. One of the most impactful of these organizations is the Rutland Community Cupboard in Vermont, a grassroots non-profit that is at the forefront of supporting individuals and families facing food insecurity.
Recently, Suburban Propane’s customer service center in Rutland, Vermont, partnered with Rutland Community Cupboard to lend a hand. Local employees volunteered to unload, sort, and stock shelves with pallets of food and pantry items, ensuring the shelves at the community cupboard are full for those who need it most, as one in four people in Rutland County struggle with hunger.
The community non-profit is open to anyone experiencing food insecurity or those shopping on behalf of someone in need. Residents can visit weekly to shop the cupboard, accessing essential groceries that make a difference in their daily lives. Through the Company’s SuburbanCares philanthropic pillar, Suburban Propane donated funds that provided more than 2,700 fresh half-gallons of milk to benefit families throughout the Rutland area.
“In the last year, we were visited by those in need 10,204 times. The milk provided by Suburban Propane will support bones, heart health, and teeth, all needed to live a healthy and dignified life. We are honored to partner with the generous folks at Suburban Propane,” said Audrey Bridge, Executive Director of Rutland Community Cupboard.
Suburban Propane is thankful for the local employees who dedicated their time to making a meaningful effort to help those in need, particularly in the communities in which the Company operates. Organizations like Rutland Community Cupboard, with their mission, are able to make a significant impact by assisting individuals and families, ensuring that no one has to face hunger alone. This combined effort is a testament to what can be achieved when businesses and local non-profits unite to address pressing needs in the community.
