Suburban Propane Partners with the American Red Cross

Red Cross boxes next to truck

A good thing just keeps getting better:
During the month of June, Suburban Propane employees from Maine to Maryland helped the American Red Cross collect enough blood to save as many as 2,862 lives. Sixty-five employees worked at blood drives in CT, MA, ME, NH, NY, MD, PA and VT. Employees recruited new donors, volunteered at registration desks, handed out snacks at drive canteens and — in many cases — donated blood themselves.

Suburban Propane also helped promote the need for blood donations for more than 4,200 blood drives throughout the East Coast in June. This effort included radio ads in 18 markets, sending 210,000 bill stuffers to customers and delivery drivers leaving 54,000 door hangers.

Blood gained from the campaign may go to help car crash victims, burn victims, cancer patients, individuals with blood disorders and other life-threatening conditions. “Every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood. Our partnership with the American Red Cross shows we honestly care about the communities we serve,” said Mark Wienberg, VP Operational Planning and Analysis.

Participating at a local blood drive gave many a great sense of satisfaction. “The pint of blood I gave today will help save as many as three lives. Everyone is here for the same reason — to help other people,” said Mark M. (Manager of Suburban Propane in Chester, NY).

After working at an eight-hour drive in her town, Rebecca W. (Manager of Suburban Propane in York, PA) echoed Mark’s sentiment: “It was very heartening to see all of these people come out and give for others.”

Giving back was the common denominator. “It didn’t seem like we were going out just to promote Suburban Propane. We were going out for a cause,” said Lisa D. (Dispatcher for of Suburban Propane in Waterbury, CT).

John Love remarked that delivering for the Red Cross and the community is a gift for those inside and outside the company. “It definitely shows Suburban Propane cares.”

All CSC involvement with the American Red Cross will be coordinated through Suburbans Propane’s Headquarters in Whippany, NJ.
