Meet our Regional Coordinator for Florida, Doris Safka, who has been part of Team Suburban Propane for over 47 years. She has been in her current role for a little over a year.
Doris has filled many roles throughout her career at Suburban Propane. She started out as a bookkeeper in 1971 in Manchester, NY and 15 years later she transferred to Rochester, NY as an Internal Staff Clerk in 1986. Two years later in November of 1988, she transferred to Venice, FL to replace a Senior Customer Service Representative who was retiring at the time. Twelve years later in 2000 she became a Regional Representative Trainer, and then four year later in 2004 she transferred to a satellite location in Cape Coral, FL to become Operations Manager. In 2012 she became Dispatch Coordinator for the Sarasota Distribution Center and then in 2018 she was appointed Regional Coordinator.
According to Doris, she has remained a dedicated employee because, “as you can see from what I have accomplished in my 47 years, my life has not been dull. When I started in 1971, I was in need of a job to supplement the family’s income. Loyalty means a lot to me. Suburban Propane has been there for me and I am there for Suburban Propane. It’s like a marriage – enjoy the good times and work through the rough ones together. We are family.”
Doris enjoys her current role as Regional Coordinator. “I love a challenge. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others. No two days are ever the same and my moto is ‘if you learned something new today, then it was a good day’.”
“Hard work has many rewards both for the company and especially for your own self-satisfaction. I could not have accomplished what I have without the support of my family and fellow employees and for that, I am grateful.”
Doris enjoys a variety of hobbies including skydiving, golf, range shooting and working in her yard. She is also a member of the local Moose Lodge.
