Suburban Propane Celebrates Anniversary in Whippany

(Republished courtesy of Jim Lent, Hanover Eagle) HANOVER TWP. – New Jersey-born business Suburban Propane, a nationwide distributor of propane, fuel oil and related products and services, celebrated its 90th anniversary with a company-wide event at their Whippany headquarters on Thursday, Sept. 27.

The event included a ceremony honoring employees who have been with the company for 45 years or more who were flown in just for the celebration. Chief Executive Officer Michael Stivala gave remarks to the crowd which included Suburban Propane employees as well as individuals from the company’s longtime community and national partners.

Hanover Township Mayor Ronald Francioli presented Stivala with the Corporate Achievement Award including a Key to the Township, an honor Mayor Francioli noted is “not given out lightly.”

Suburban Propane Chief Financial Officer & Chief Accounting Officer Michael A. Kuglin presented Whippany Fire Department Chief, Joseph J. Cortright with a check for a donation of $1,000, followed by a statement from the chief, who noted the value of Suburban Propane’s emergency response efforts and shared that his father once played little league for a local team sponsored by Suburban Propane.

Executive Director of the New Jersey Historical Society Steven Tettamanti received a donation of historic photographs from throughout Suburban Propane’s 90 years in the state, marking the official start of the Suburban Propane Archive, joining business records dating back to the colonial era.

In addition to the speaking program and cake cutting ceremony featuring custom creations from New Jersey’s own Carlo’s Bakery, the event included an outdoors company picnic as well as a blood drive hosted by the American Red Cross in celebration of the long-standing collaboration.
